Media filters are available on ebay to permit you to convert from fiber to copp
er. I had to get pretty familiar with these items when I ordered a Sup I with
MMF and received a Sup I with SMF. (I decided not to make any noise with the se
ller because I was just happy it worked after my wife saw the delivery guy drop
the box coming up the walkway to the house.) I had to get a single mode conve
rter and duplex single mode fiber, but the experience gave me something to talk
about to a hiring manager. He had already told me I was hired, but perhaps it
raised my rank or salary a bit from wht it would have been, so I guess it it w
as worth it. These days, Cat 5K stuff is going cheap, so you don't have to go
through all this hassle.

As for 10/100 modules, these used to be pretty expensive, as they were what eve
ryone wanted. They have gotten pretty reasonable now.

Best regards,
Tom Larus

The CCIE lab posts their CAT5000 will be loaded with version 4.5. The
highest you can go with a Sup I engine is version 4.x. So as long as they
don't go to version 5 it should work great for you.
What I would be concerned with is the modules included, and the ports on the
sup engine. If you get one of those Sup I's with 2 MMF 100Mbps eth ports on
it you'll need a 10/100 module in order to do trunking & router on a stick,
that is unless you have a router with an MMF ethernet interface.
