Hi Shadi,
Below are my understandings from the CD:
bgp deterministic med - by default bgp does not compare MED when choosing
the best path. This command enables bgp to compare MED of routes which are
advertised from the same AS
bgp bestpath med confed - This command enables BGP to compare MED of routes
which are advertised from the same confederation. It only works when there
is no external routes.

/1rdbgp.htm#xtocid380113
Please correct if I am wrong as I have not tried them.
Regards,
The comparison between MEDs is only made if there are no external autonomous
systems in the path (an external autonomous
system is an autonomous system that is not within the confederation). If
there is an external autonomous system in the path, then
the external MED is passed transparently through the confederation, and the
comparison is not made.
