Reboot is the only thing that appears to have fixed it, but I had rebooted
each router 4 times before... Like I said, I've had this problem before with
IPX EIGRP where a reboot fixed it as well. I'm just concerned that I'll run
into this during when it counts... Then, time is too much of a factor to
have to reboot to get it to work! I tried to recreate it, but no luck. It
works each time now.

You are right about there's no need to have default-metric in R9, I should
read the problem more carefully. Sorry about causing more confusions. If I
understand it correctly, there was no problem in the original configs. Now
problem is fixed by reboot, but what caused it? I'm lost as well.
