Ludwig,

The 2500's run from the flash, so the flash is
read-only when they are running. If you have enough
DRAM and are using a compressed image (mz) you can get
the image to run in RAM completely and thus the flash
becomes read-write. I haven't tried this yet but
others here have discussed it. Check the archives for
details.

Also, if you have a large enough Flash you could
partition it so the running image runs from one
partition making that partition read-only and the
other partition read-write. This means the images have
to be small enough to fit on the partitions though.
