You actually have that backward. The default is E2 which only
includes the external metric. E1 includes the external metric
plus the cost to reach the ASBR.

The decision about which to use really depends on your network
design and the problem you're trying to solve. That said, I
usually use E1 unless I have a reason to use E2.
