When using the ip-default network command you must specify a classfull
default network which is in the routing table of the advertising router, but
the network is not being routed by the advertising router. In other words if
the router is routing for network 172.16.X.X then the ip-default network can
not be one of the networks it is routing for.
Usually in a scenario that calls for the use of ip-default network usage,
there will be a downstream EIGRP router advertising a single route (maybe on
a loopback) which is not part of the classfull EIGRP routing domain. Use
this as the default network and it should work. The router will advertise
to downstream routers a 0.0.0.0 network and their gateway of last resort
will be set to the address of the advertising router.

Subject: DEFAULT ROUTING WITH EIGRP USING THE ip- default network
command

A few days back I passed CCIE written with 90 %. It
feels great !

Now need some help on the lab portion from the Cisco
gurus !!

I am refrerring to Solie book for lab.

On page : 708, Heading : Default routing with EIGRP,

Redistribute a default static route into EIGRP so
that EIGRP recognizes the route of 0.0.0.0 to be the
default route. A default static route is created with
the global router entry ip route 0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0
next_hop_IP_address. This route then must be
redistributed into EIGRP with the redistribute static
command.

Am able to sucessfully configure this.

BUT

If the network 0.0.0.0 is not used, you can still
mark the route as a default route by using the ip
default network a.b.c.d command. but using the
deafault network command, it does not work.

Any ideas, how to make this work?, what specifically
do you need to do to get this to work ?
