This should work. I've seen this problem before when connecting the
routers to a switch, the switch didn't like the same mac address on two
different ports (HSRP virtual mac address) and both routers would show
"active".

to correct the problem I used the "standby use-bia" command on both routers.

Has anyone configured hsrp between dissimiliar
interface types such as fastE and gigE; does this
work? As soon as the standby configs are added to the
interfaces, they lose connectivity and both establish
themselves as the active with the stanby router
unknown. With the standby statements removed, they
can ping each other.
