Anand,
the cabling you need to connect the cat3900 to the 500cs is the
same as with any cisco router. Use the standard SUB-D 9pin to RJ45
Adapter and a rollover cable. Maybe the former owner of the switch
has set the speed of the serial line to something different than
9600 ? Read the Catalyst 3900 Token Ring Switch User Guide, the section
'customizing the serial link' explains the different settings.
I would just try out the different speeds listed in the manual, you
have a good chance that this will help.
The proper way to connect your routers to the TR-Switch would be
TokenRing Media Filters combined with standard cat5 patchcords.
You usually get them in shops that sell other Tokenring related
equipment.
The quick and dirty way is to get some SUB-D 9pin to RJ45 Adapters
and modify the wiring. Warning: This is against the Tokenring
specification. It worked fine here in my lab environment.
This is the pinout:
SUB-D(male) RJ45(socket)
pin1 pin4
pin5 pin3
pin6 pin5
pin9 pin6
Mail me offline if you want a jpg of the adapter.
Greets and Happy New Year 2002 !
