Hi Group:

I ran into a problem while doing the redistribution
between OSPF/IGRP on R5. If someone would help
clearify, I would really appreciated, thanks in
advance.

- redistribute connected in OSPF process was required
for the network 150.10.40.0 to appear on other OSPF
routers, why is this? Since IGRP is also running on R5
and redistributing into OSPF shouldn't this take care
of redistributing 150.10.40.0 into OSPF? or because
network 150.10.40.0 is one of R5's connected networks,
therefore over wrote IGRP's redistribution since
connected routes have metric of 0 and will always win,
therefore require specific redistribute connected
statement enable to inject this route into OSPF
process?

- For the routes 150.10.65.0/30 & 150.10.10.0/28
which are also connected networks on R5, I've noticed
redistribute connected within OSPF process (so
connected routes become external routes) then using
summary-address to summarize to the classful boundary
was not sufficient to propergate these 2 networks to
R5's adjacent IGRP router R4. However, once I've added
area range to summerize these 2 networks within OSPF
process, then it worked (these 2 networks propergated
to R4 successfully). Is this because of the
summary-addresss commands only took care of the
external routes (as a result of redistribute
connected), therefore the original (more specific)
OSPF routes within OSPF still exist and is overwriting
the summerized external routes (since internal routes
preferred over external routes), hence, area range was
required in addition to summerize the more specific
OSPF routes?

Regards,
Paul Young.
