Hi,
Most of the TR interface will go through the normal insertion sequence (
a series os tests
before it consider ok), I couldn't remember the whole test sequence, but
one of the test is
a test of loopback using the mau, during this test, the mau act as the
loopback for the TR
and if this test pass then it will break the loop and insert into the
ring.
Now, you connect the TR using UTP cable to the 3Com TR switch directly,
if the 3Com switch
does not provide the above function and we cannot disbale( we behave
like a hub rather than a switch port) it will fail the initialise test.
You may do the following test, first construct a loopback test
connector, allow the TR interface to go through the tests, once the TR
interface is up/up, then remove the loopback test connector and connect
the the 3Com TR switch.

Subject: OT:Token Ring Adapter Cable Pin-out?
Dear ALL,
Just got a 3Com TR Switch but cannot figure out what is the token ring
adapter cable. I suspect it is a clossover since in adapter mode the
switch can directly connect with tr hub but cannot connect with token
ring
adapter (neither from router nor pc). In hub mode, the case reverse. I
have tried seraching in the net and 3Com site but with no hope to solve
it. Search through the past mail even make me confused. Someone suggests
the RJ45 pin-out for token ring is 3,4,5,6 but some says it is 1,2,4,5.
>From TR FAQ, it should be 3-4-5-6 but I also tried with clossover
5-6-3-4
and 4-3-6-5 but still cannot solve it. Would anyone suggest possible
pin-out for tr clossover or adapter cable?
TIA
Fanglo
