Hi,

It depends on what type of Authnetication you are
loooking at.

If it is only for area then all the routers int eh
area must have the same authentication

or

If you are doing Authnetiocation by interfaces basis
then them the authentication command on the interfaces
is necessary.

And as there is no connecting interfce for a loop back
inteace you do not need to configure authentication.
