ok.....
there are different types of RS232 chips are embedded even in same series
and same model router. So it will be useless to tell u the chip #.
When u will open up ur box look close to the chips that are circuiting with
the console port. In some router there are decoder or buffer chip first then
u will get the buffer or decoder connected to the RS232 chip. copy that chip
# from it and search for that # on ur favourite search engine. U will find
details of it. then download the datasheet of that chip from the
manufacturer site that will give u the logic of that IC then u can test ur
IC with the PROB.
This is a not a hard process but it will it will recover ur router if only
console port is dead.
