I just wanted to follow up on the whole boot rom ios upgrade experiencewith my
old CPA2514.
I finally got the boot roms and stuck them in the router. The first thing I
noticed upon reboot was that the router actually already had an 6 meg flash
chip in it but prior to the boot rom upgrade it would only address 4 megs and
that is all show flash said too. Now it see's the whole thing. I pooped my
other 8 megs in there it addresses all 16 mrgs of flash. It also addresses all
16 megs of mem.
The last thing I noticed and someone had mentioned it here bfore to is that my
other routers running Enterprise IPSEC56 seem very slow to boot, show run or
wr mem. This old 2514 seems much quicker and I assume it must be a product of
the boot rom upgrade as it is running the same ios so I went ahead and ordered
boot roms for all my other routers as it seems to be a big dsifference in
booting, sh run and wr mem with the new roms.
Anyway, I said I would follow up before so there it is.
If you come across these old Cisco boxes that are yellow and CPA, they are
perfectly good routers. I actually got mine free as the person was going to
toss it due to the percieved flash/memory/IOS limitations. I wonder how many
more of these are sitting round on inventory shelves or slotted for the trash
because of this???
