I would be inclined to agree somewhat with Jason Sinclair, in that they all
do what is asked.

AS Paths put a space in between the Autonomous Systems, so the

^7474 .* 13606$

was what I came up with (obviously all of the options will indicate "starts
in AS13606, ends in AS7474"), but leaving no spaces should (and according to
you does) work because the . matches any character (including a space), and
* matches zero or more sequences of the preceding pattern leading to another
correct/equivalent answer

^7474.*13606$

I wasn't sure whether or not a space was necessary (but like you've
verified, obviously not).

And finally the underscore _ matches (among other things) a space, so the
solution with underscores is all but identical to the 1st one listed...

^7474_.*_13606$

So after that unneccessarily LONG dissertation, I guess my answer to your
question is that since they all seem to be "saying" the exact same thing,
there is no "most correct solution" - and if my proctors in RTP are any
indication, finding a solution that works (whether they'd thought of that
exact solution or not) is good enough to receive the points (of course as
long as you don't violate any of the restrictions in the exam).

Hopefully I haven't put you to sleep and this was useful in some way.

Greg,

I've tried it with ^7474.*13606$ and ^7474_.*_13606$ and ^7474 .* 13606$

They all work. What is the most correct solution?

Albert

I would think the appropriate regular expression would be...

^7474 .* 13606$
Since .* is the same as all paths (according to Halabi)

Quick quizz on how well you guys know your Regular Expressions.

How can match a route that has originated from AS 13606 and ending at AS
7474

An example would be

Network Next Hop Metric LocPrf Weight Path
* i209.37.145.0 216.14.195.13 1000 0 7474 701 7018
13606 i

My best attempt is:

^7474(_[0-9]+_)13606$

It doesn't work

Thanks

Albert
