Make sure you point to the router ID.
Keep in mind that router ID is only calculated at boot time or whenever the
ospf process is restarted.
when virtual links are configured, care must be taken when adding loopback
addresses or other interfaces to the router.

David,
after doing bootcamp lab #1, i had the same problem.
Make sure your pointing your virtual link to the proper router-id's. If in
doubt as to what the ospf router-id is, do a show ip ospf and you'll see it.
Or hard code it in there with the 'router-id x.x.x.x' command. Give that a
try!

This could be an OSPF authentication problem. I saw this error many times
before "really" figuring out OSPF authentication across virtual links.
Remember that the virtual link statement must authenticate if area zero is
requiring authentication. There are many references in previous emails to
this problem. If this is not the problem make certain that the IP address in
the command and the router ID match up. You can use the show ip ospf int
command to see the router ID.
Just a thought !!!

Subject: Lab 4 vlinks
Hi,
Has anyone had the problem where this message is received on lab 4, R2
00:22:07: %OSPF-4-ERRRCV: Received invalid packet: mismatch area ID, from
backbone area must be virtual-link but not found from 10.10.1.5, Serial0
00:22:16: %OSPF-4-ERRRCV: Received invalid packet: mismatch area ID, from
backbone area must be virtual-link but not found from 10.10.1.3, Serial0
Area 5 is configured as a v link between R1 and R2 to the OSPF router ids.
I have done v links successfully in the past.
The problem goes away when I issue this command on R2 only:
R2(config-router)#area 5 virtual-link 11.1.1.5
R2(config-router)#area 5 virtual-link 10.33.1.65
Did I miss something big on v-links?
I looked at ccbootcamp answers and could not see any difference in my
configs on ospf or serial lines.
Reboot or clear ip ospf proc does not work either.

MCSE (worthless) CCNP - the paper is nice I guess
I have nothing cute to say.
