You can probably get 4 or 5 2501's (1 ether 2 serial) for your lab in your
budget. I just added 5 2513's (token, 2 serial and an ethernet port) to my
lab for 2500.00 plus shipping. Since there is not much to the switch or
switching in general as it pertains to the lab (there is, but compared to
router configurations it is minimal), I would start with routers so you can
focus on the majority of the lab topics like all the routing protocols, IP,
IPX, DLSW etc..

Check out e-bay and watch the prices. They fluctuate widely. I have seen
2501's go as high as 5 or 600 and as low as 300.00

Subject: Advice needed on Lab setup

Hi all,

I am a new member to this group. I hope to gain and contribute a lot from
this elite group.

I start off my participation with a request for advice in setting up a home
lab. I have a $2500 budget for setting up my home lab. I would appreciate if
fellow members can advice as to what routers would make an efficient lab for
my budget.

Thanks for your reply in advance.

Cheers,
Sundar
