And who said they weren't technical???? :-)
I have a chance to use a UBR for a few months, and was interested especially
because of the voice port. But I sure don't want to lose my internet
connectivity in the process!

Dear Denise,
We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.
A cable modem converts information to single stream bits for transmission
over the internet. A router reads the address of the information sent and
decides the best route to get it to it's destination. A bridge lets you
converse with those on different subnets or on different parts of a LAN.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please contact us. Thank
you for choosing Comcast.

This router is made for connecting to cable systems, and it's default mode
is bridging. I thought that the RCA was basically just a bridge. Can you
fill me in a bit more on the function my cable "modem" is providing?
Thanks.

Dear Denise,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding your modem.
You can not replace a modem with a router; they are different machines.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please contact us. Thank
you for choosing Comcast.
