The DL320 is the 7825... The DL380 is the 7835.
So, the 7822 and 7830 as you mentioned were the old ones.
Call Manager has ALWAYS run on just about anything, as long as you're
capable of installing it and running it. However, like you said, Cisco only
supports certain models (two current Compaq's, two older Compaq's and two
IBM's). This was done because too many people can't maintain a server to
save their lives, and it's not TAC's fault. :)
But Cisco has not changed stance in this, so the correct answer is that for
full support, you need to run it on one of the Cisco MCS units. To install
it otherwise, Cisco won't teach you how to do it, nor will any Cisco
instructor do so on the record. You may be able to con your SE in to
teaching you how (if they know), or you could play with it yourself for a
while.
And Joe is correct, if you try to run the installation program normally on a
non-Cisco box, it whines to you about that, and tells you it won't be
supported on any non-Cisco approved device, and installation stops.

Nick,
Your information is incorrect. I know you were told this by an instruc
tor,
but they are human too. There are a total of 6 servers supported for new CM
installation today. Cisco 7825, Cisco 7835, Compaq DL380, Compaq DL320, IBM
x330 and IBM x340 servers. We still support the Cisco 7822 and 7830 for
previous customers but recommend that RAM be upgraded from 256Mb to a
minimum of 512Mb. The CD's provided check the bios of the system to verify
it is one of the above. If you attempt to install these CD's on a server
other than above you will be denied. While possible to hack the system onto
another server platform, this would be a violation of licensing agreement
with Cisco Systems, Inc.

I'vejust done the 3.1 CIPT course and we asked the instructor the same
question. He checked with Cisco and the advice is that, as of 3.1, it will
run on anything you like, however it will only be supported on a limited
range of IBM, Compaq and Cisco (badged) hardware. He commented at the time
that the policy on this kept changing and that it had changed in the upgrade
from 3.0 to 3.1.

Nick
