I would suggest that the 'suggested default' is more of a 'rule-of-thumb' becau
se it depends on the particular situation.
Generally, you would want redistributed routes to appear less favorable than na
tive, interior routes. The reason becomes clearer when you consider the situati
on where mutual redistribution is taking place between two IGP domains at more
than one point--generally you don't want the fed-back routes to look better tha
n the interior routes.
But even if you don't have mutual redistribution going on at more than one poin
t, why not get into the habit of sizing up the domains and setting the default
metrics as if you did? It makes for good practice.
