Kenneth;

I had this very same problem after I upgraded the Flash & Memory on my 2501. It
 took me two days to work through, but I "solved" the problem.

1. I loaded a different IOS which required only 6MB as opposed to 16. Still reb
ooted.
2. I removed one of the 8MB flash sticks, reloaded IOS, rebooted... Worked fine
....
3. I replaced with the other 8MB flash stick, reload IOS, rebooted, worked fine
...
4. Tried again with both flash sticks, using 16MB flash, router began misbehavi
ng again...
5. I flip-flopped the Flash sticks in the slots; still rebooted.
6. Switched out the DRAM, still misbehaved;
7. Switch out the flash once again, using flash from a different router, everyt
hing worked fine.
8. Split up the questionable flash sticks and distributed among two other 2500
(2502 & 2511) series, they seem to work...

Moral of the story.... Not quite sure really. Why a certain combination of flas
h would not work properly in a certain router (2501) but would work just fine i
n other routers is a mystery to me. I eliminated the boot rom chip variable ear
ly on, it is the latest version. So, if you can mix and match your DRAM and Fla
sh from the misbehaving router with another router you have on hand, give it a
try. Just keep track of the different combinations you try so that you can elim
inate variables as you work through the problem. And, as with all troubleshooti
ng, try one variable at a time. As I said, it took me two days to try the vario
us combinations before everything worked (2 weeks now.... knock on wood). Best
to you!
