I have seen this problem when teaching the Cisco IMCR class also when
mixing different vendors for the flash simms. Some of the older routers
check for the chip id to see if it is Intel flash simms.
Sometimes I just made sure the first chip was Intel and then the other
vendor was in the second slot. Sometimes that would work and other
times I moved the intel simms to the old router and the new vendor to a
new router.
Otherwise, yes you will need to upgrade the roms on the router to stop
the incompatibility error messages.

Don,
Sounds like it's time to upgrade your boot rom chip set. I don't have
an
Access Pro, so I don't really know if it is the same as a 2500.
However, I
upgraded all my 2500s and my Cat 5505 Sup-III a couple weeks ago for $10
each. The seller has many more listed on eBay and could probably tell
you
if his chips will work in your Access Pro:

He sent a free extractor tool, but I couldn't seem to use it right; I
just
used an awl with no problems. Won't cost you much to try it.
