Most likely aliens. Sort of resembles crop circles :) Actually, the
periods are drops. Since it's a repetitive pattern, I'd guess that either
the router or the Linux box is showing some kind of performance problem.
Check your duplexes and interface drops at both ends. Maybe try TFTP'ing to
another machine, or copying in the opposite direction to test.
