Jay,
Here is my understanding.
By default DLSW does the bit swapping if needed. That is if you are not
trying to do static cache or reachability entries. If you are trying to
do statics or mac filters that is when bit swapping may be needed. The way
I try to remember it is that DLSW normally assumes everything is in
noncanonical (token ring) format. You can confirm this by doing a sho dlsw
reach and your ethernet macs show up bit swapped. So if you are working
with t/r endstations you don't need bit swapping. If you are using
ethernet (canonical) endstations you will need to use bit swapping because
DLSW wants/expects t/r format.
So if you use icanreach mac exclusive commands on r1 than you need to bit
swap for any host it has locally on r1s ethernet. This would tell r2 you
r1 can only reach a specific mac on r1 and no others.
On the other hand, if you want to allow r1's netbios client to reach only
the host 1234.1234.1234 you would have to filter on r1 with a mac address
of 482c.482c.482c (bit swapped 1234.1234.1234)
Been a while since I've played with DLSW (that why I'm reviewing it now)
but that is how I remember it. I'm sure other may have input a well.
