I can think of one possiblity .
say you have

r1-------------------------------r2

r1 and r1 are running bgp. say you have , bunch of access list defined at
the out going port of r1 denying some traffic and permiting sone traffic and
lets say BGP is not a prt of the list. As you know implicy deny will deny
all the other routing protocols. So yout BGP will not work Ypu may have to
separately permit BGP to pass through.
