Question on the 3900 Token Ring Switch

I have a couple of quick questions on the 3900 Token Ring Switch:

1. Is there a way to change or modify the duplex settings of the token ring
port either in the switch itself or interface of the router? I have
searched the docs and I don't see it right now. When I do a "show interface
to0" on the router connected to the switch is says "16 mbps, half-duplex".
I'm curious if there is a full duplex and whether someone can configure a
duplex mismatch between the 3900 and a token Ring interface on the router.

2. on the trbrf of my vlan (say vlan100) I assigned an ip address of
172.16.100.254 /24 with a gateway of 172.16.100.1. I tried pinging from the
switch to 172.16.100.1 and its says interface down.... However the switch
can ping itself.. any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Luke
