I think you are being a little to litteral here. Ping every interface
usually means that every interface be reachable. You are correct that a
ping from a directly connected interface will bring up the ISDN line but it
will not keep it up. To go a step further, some lab requirements say that
every interface be pingable form everywhere. If nonbroadcast networks are
involved and you apply the requirement in the litteral sense then you will
need to inlcude local mappings for the interface to be reachable for the
router it is configured on. I would insure reachability throughout my
network at a minimum and worry about local interface reachability in the
situations such as I described only when expressly asked to do so.
