In the archive files, I found someone said when you
don't want to use ipx rip, you should use 'no network
all' under 'ipx router rip', shouldn't use 'no ipx
router rip', because it will affect sap protocal. so I
set up a lab , r1 (2501, 12.0.9) connect r2 (2610,
12.0.7t) through serail, and have one ethernet each
other, and I found many strange things about those
commands.

First I used 'no ipx router rip', and added some staic
saps on each router. and run ipx router eigrp. I got
everthing (include sap) works ok. But when I debuged
ipx routing activity and debuged ipx routing events, I
found it seemed ipx rip still working even there was
'no ipx router rip" in config. because I got some
informations beloww:
IPXRIP: positing full update to 12.ffff.ffff.ffff via
Serial0 (broadcast)
00:11:15: IPXRIP: Update len 40 src=12.0001.0001.0001,
dst=12.ffff.ffff.ffff(453)
00:11:15: network11, hops 1, delay 7

untill when I added 'ipx router rip' then 'no network
all" , from debug information, I got:
00:16:13: IPXRIP: RIP turned off, skip positing update
to Ethernet0
00:16:14: IPXRIP: RIP turned off, skip positing update
to Serial0

and I also found , 'no ipx router rip' will only
appear in config if you don't using any routing
protocal or you just using ipx eigrp.

when I just used nlsp, in r2,the command 'no ipx
router rip' didn't disppear in config when you typed
it. and just disply as 'no redistribute rip' under
'ipx router nlsp'. when I 'debug ipx routing event" I
still found rip ,in r1, there was also not 'no ipx
router rip' in globle mode, it automatic added 'no
redis rip' under 'ipx router nlsp', it also automatic
added 'ipx router rip', and 'no network 11(my ethnet
ipx number)".

At last, I got a conclusion, if you want to turn off
ipx rip, you should use 'no network all' under 'ipx
router rip', not because 'no ipx router rip' affect
sap, just because it is useless.

but why there is such command? If it really affect
sap? Can someone give me a answer?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Hiler
