For some reason I thought that one aux would have to be connected to
another aux. As in aux to aux. That should work, I'll give it a shot.

Why did you connect R1's AUX to R2's AUX? Try this:
Laptop -> CON R1 AUX -> CON R2 AUX -> CON R3
