encap frame-relay ietf
Should always be used with ATM-FRY PVC's. I work for a telco here in NZ, we
use the CISCO MGX (CESM / FRSM / AUSM) - Asxis with the CISCO BPX as the
core back-done switches. What I have found is when I create a PVC from:
BPX (ATM-STMx) to MGX (FRSM) = bpx1.2.7.VPI.VCI <-translate)->
mgx4.12.5.8.DLCI (or GA) Sure the PVC stands up when you do a show ip int br
and show fr pvc, but there is corruption within the PVC, so IETF fixes that
problem. Just a role of thumb, that using IETF should be implemented on the
serial interface. Look at the frame relay forum and CCO.
cheers
Andrew

Chris,
AFAIK, cisco router use LMI autosense to identify the LMI type in FR
switch.
And if we only type: encapsulation frame-relay, the default type is cisco
and if we want to use IETF we have to type: encap frame ietf
Are you sure we don't have to add cisco or ietf when using sub-interface?
hmm..I have to try in my lab..

*** yes it is related to the frame-relay type. However you wouldnt need to
add the ciso or ietf statement if you configured subinterfaces. This
command
is really dependant if you are in a partial or full mesh cloud.
Also if you specify frame-relay encap cisco or ietf you do not need to add
those statements to your DLCI map statement above.
