It doesn't involve a lot of math. Cost is the result of Reference bandwidth
divided Bandwidth.
You use the command auto-cost reference-bandwidth to specify number(in
Mbps)( for example, 10)in router configuration and the command bandwidth in
Kbps(ex 500)in interface configuration. Then you will get the result of
cost is 20. So whatever cost you want you can play with 2 variables
Bandwidth Reference and Bandwidth.
Hope this help

Subject: OSPF Cost calculation

Does anyone know of an easy way to figure out ospf cost. I know that it is
100000000/bandwidth =cost but what if the requirement is to make a link
appear as a cost of # but dont use the ip ospf cost command. 100000000 / x =
cost. I need to find out x to make a bandwidth statement on the interface.
My math skills are rusty to say the least, so if anyone knows how to come up
with this figure quickly please help. thanks,
justin
