I disagree with your approach here. I would take care of all layer 1 issues
first, then layer 2, and finally layer 3. Basic ISDN connectivity is a layer
2 issue. If I were you, I would bring up basic ISDN using a very broad
dialer-list such as dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit and make sure that you
can call from one router to the other. Once I established that basic ISDN
works correctly, then I would agree that your planned approach is
reasonable. You can always go back later and make your dialer-list more
granular or add additional features. If you try to do everything all at once
later, you may cause yourself greater stress if you run into problems by
worrying what the cause of your problems is if/when you run into difficulty
configuring ISDN and DDR.
What I would do, if I were you, is to make sure that you are so comfortable
with ISDN by the time you take the lab that you will eagerly attack any ISDN
problems. If you happen to have ISDN on your lab, then be so knowledgeable
that you can say to yourself, "Great, here are some easy points!" If you
don't know ISDN and DDR that well, then you are not ready for the lab. You
should take this same approach with all core issues, i.e. frame-relay, OSPF,
etc. Good luck in your studies.

I think this is a reasonable approach, especially since dial/isdn stuff can
drain a fair amount of time if you start to have problems. Just make sure
that nothing else in the exam requires that to be working. For example, make
sure DLSw peers or tunnels, etc. are not requiring that the ISDN link be
working.
I would also look carefully at the points. If it is worth a fair number of
points you could put it off somewhat, but in that case just make sure you
have enough time left to nail it.
Rob.

Subject: ISDN part of exam
I was wondering if it is a good idea to do the ISDN portion of the exam
last. The reason being is that I can do it all at once with all the
necessary protocols up and running and not have to worry about one of those
gotchas to haunt me later in the lab. Plus I can filter out everything I
need to all at once, so I wont have to modify anything later. Please let me
know if this sounds like a good idea. Thanks,
