This is not strange at all.. Again, I do this in my practise lab all the
time. You assume the physical layer is fine, and go on to set the
appropriate layer 2 settings, encapsulations, clock rates, etc... it takes a
bit of getting used to but once you are okay, everything else should be
easy... no physical faults... I use a APC to do remote power on/off for
password recovery. The APC is a pretty expensive toy but it works fine for
it's purpose... I think if you managed a large network, you probably have
gotten used to this already... show cdp, etc...

Not having taken the real lab, I cannot tell you if it's the same....
Unfortunately my v-labs is now shut down till after my lab attempt.... :-)
Else, it would give you a good feel of a remote lab....
