You can find the differences here:
the 2.4 commands (watch for wrap on URL):
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat5000/rel_2_3/cmdref23
/index.htm
the 4.5 commands (which are faily consistant from 4.5 up to 5.x/6.x):
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat5000/rel_4_5/cmd_ref/
cr_toc.htm
and to answer your question, yes... many of the commands are different in
syntax but more importantly, there is increased functionality in newer code
so some of the 'features' are not even available in 2.4...
You can run the latest 4.x code if you have 16MB of DRAM, 5.x if you have
32MB, and 6.x if you have 64MB. These are general guidlines, but form exact
requirements and for ugrade path from 2.4, see the release notes:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat5000/c5krn/sw_rns/78_
5861.htm#xtocid135693
Important to do this right... the switch will not function properly if you
try to shortcut the upgrade path...
hope that helps,
Clayton

On of the switches has IOS 2.4 & limited RAM. Can someone tell me if the
commands will be COMPLETLY different than newer versions?
