ramesh,
Think of it like this (any one please correct me if I stray)
TRCRFs (Concentrators) are the same as Ethernet VLANS, but for token-ring.
A trcrf is a collection of token ring ports. You can break on trcrf up into
groups of ports or single ports in the same manner that you would define
VLANs.
1) Trcrfs are normally native to one switch but can span across multiple
switches if the Trbrf allows for it (see below)
TRBRFs are similar to an onboard intervlan router with the exception that it
does bridging instead. TRBRFs are used for a few different things :
1) A TRBRF (parent) is needed to be able to define TRCRFs (children) in
configuration
2) TRBRFs are used for bridging between multiple TRCRFs not in the same
VLAN
3) can be used to span the token bridge between multiple switches using ISL.
(this requires a in-between mechanism like RSM or external router)
some gotchas last I heard are some incompatibilities on Trbrf spanning tree
protocols and Trcrf modes, but this was on the cat5k.
Trbrf - IEEE span tree not to be set with Trcrf mode - SRB
Trbrf - IBM span tree not to be set with Trcrf mode - SRT
If these modes are set together no span tree will be run at the TRBRF level
and the logical ports will be placed into block mode. Get out of it with the
"set spantree portstate" command.
