The ASP is the ATM Switch Processor not an ATM port adapter.

Think of the ASP as being the Supervisor Engine for the Lightstream ATM Switche
s

The 5500 simply lets you put one into slot 13 making an ATM switch down in the
lower card slots.

It is an independant switch though logically just not physically.
