The 2948G *is* in any technical sense a C4K, though fixed-config.
The 2980G is a fixed-config 4003 with sup1, 32 FE+ 2 GE and 48
FE. The ports are even named that way.
The 2948G should have been called 4048F, the 2980G 4080F... And
while we're at it, the 4912 should have been called 4012G. Or
something.
Naming them 29xx is one of those things you have to be in Cisco
marketing to understand, and in my mind it's actually hurt sales
because some people (including sales) tend to think of the 3500
XLs as 'never' and/or 'better' the 2900 series.
But I'm rambling...
