first determine what you are going to do
hardware research (select - Access Servers and Access Routers or one of the
other types of devices)
or
software research (select - Cisco IOS Software Configuration )

since this is a CCIE lab list we will assume it is an IOS problem -
you would now be in the "Cisco IOS Software Configuration menu"

select the version of IOS you want, in this case the CCIE lab is using 12.0
and some 12.1
select the 12.1 version

most of your time will normally trying to configure something or
another...so I normally go to the
"Configuration Guides and Command References "
once here you will see a bunch of stuff, but the thing to remember is one
will show you how to configure stuff (these are the configuration guides)
and the other will just give you definitions of all the commands for that
particular protocol ( command reference guides). Normally I first start off
in the configuration guides and print out the command reference guides when
I do my labs/research.

A lot of your time will be spent in the Cisco IOS IP and IP Routing
Configuration Guide since this is where OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, IGRP, Multicast
and the rest of the IP stuff.

You really have to play with it for a while but it is worth it. When I
start off the CD seemed like a rosetta stone with parts missing. After a
week or so it made since of how things are organized. I used it a bunch of
times on my lab attempts since my memory is pretty bad...so I normally pull
up a sample config to jumpstart my memory.

Good luck...and in time you will realize that the Doc CD is indeed your best
friend. Both in and out of the LAB.

Subject: doc cd..

Can someone help me out, I've been trying to learn how to navigate the
doc cd and I haven't been getting anywhere. I can't find anything I want
when I
need it. Can someone please give me a few pointers on how to find my way
around
on the cd?

Thanks,
