Some of the parameters you need already exist in the network and
you need to find out what values they are:
- partner is the MAC address of the AS400. get the MAC from the AS400
(be aware that Ethernet addresses are canonical and DLSw will need it
defined as non-canonical).
- XID is an identifier used by both devices, so there should be a value
for this already in the AS400 and you will need to use the same value in
the remote end (the controller probably already has an XID defined but
you should find from the AS400 administrator if it will be changing when
the station definitions change). When the downstream device is a PU2.0
the XID is defined in the DLSw configuration for the SDLC device but for a
PU2.1 the controller usually manages its own ID Exchange so you may not
need this for DLSw config.
- the SDLC address exists in the current configuration of the controller
and the AS400. You need to find that and include it in the DLSw config
so the router can properly communicate with the controller.

Some of the parameters you need do not already exist and you need to
create values:
- the VMAC is a MAC address representing the downstream device (the
AS400 will now be seeing this as a LAN attached device rather than a
serial/SDLC device) and you will need to create a MAC. The concept of
Locally Administered Address (LAA) suggests that the beginning of the
VMAC should be 4000. A common practice is to make the middle set of
numbers represent the controller type (5394). DLSw requires that the
last two digits be zero. So a suggested VMAC would be 4000.5394.0100.

There need to be new station definitions on the AS400 (done by the AS400
administrator) reflecting the new view of an Ethernet attached device
instead of the previous SDLC attached device.

You indicate that the connection will be over frame relay but do not say
whether it will be TCP encapsulated (in which case media does not matter)
or will use one of the options to encapsulate directly to frame (DLSw
Lite) in which case there will be more to the DLSw config.
