I have tried on 1720. Both work fine. To me I thought traffic shaping faired
better. rate-limit dropped few extra packets for similar settings.

Subject: Rate Limiting Question
What is the difference between using these 2 different commands in order =
to rate limit on an interface?
"rate-limit"
or
"traffic-shape"
Can both commands be used for rate-limiting? I have noticed that the =
"rate-limit" interface command is only available on higher Cisco =
platforms such as 75xx, and on lower platforms I must use =
"traffice-shape"
Thanks.
