I have found with the 2500 series, that they will run the images on less
than the quoted minimum DRAM. I have had no problems at all with them
crashing...

I used to run 8mb flash and 16mb dram in my 2500's with 11.2 enterprise and
it worked fine, but to run IOS 12.0 enterprise with IPSec 56 to be able to
use some of the new features and commands you will need at least 16 mb
flash.
Watch out for Dram and flash on e-bay as some of it is not Cisco approved
nore will it run in your 2500. I got a drawer full of old dram from old PC's
that looks like Cisco Dram but will not run in a 2500. Also check out your
boot roms. If you upgrade them you may be able to run non Intel flash and
faster dram and it is a free upgrade. In reviewing the archives it may not
be a bad idea to run newer code as the lab is running 12.0 now everywhere?
In the ASET program which no longer exists as of March they had 12.0 code
and 2600 - 3600 series routers with no 2500's except the terminal server if
my memory serves me correctly.
Robert is correct as booting from a tftp you can get by with 8mb flash and
16mb dram and run 12.0 enterprise code. You just have to wait for the tftp
load on each router.

If you want to save some bucks, try booting your image off a TFTP server.
Works great, but a liittle slow! There is usually some memory on ebay.

Hi Group!

Need Flash & RAM for a 2501. Can anyone recommend a CHEAP option for getting
some. Cisco made stuff is expensive, not worried about warranty since router
is old. Currently, 1x8MB Flash simm + 1 4mb RAM simm, apparently need to
take it to 16mb flash & 16 mb RAM for R/S lab practice (is this right?)

Many thanks & regards.

Tariq Sharif
