What if the lab specifically specifies to use Sparse mode on the tunnel?
Thank you,
Robert

Try using sparse-dense on the path through the tunnel, i.e., allow the
auto-rp announcements through. These are 224.0.1.39(auto-rp send) and
224.0.1.40(ma-send).

Is there anything special that needs to be done in order to get Auto-RP to
work across a tunnel?
R6------------R2
R6
interface tunnel 0
ip address 140.10.200.6 255.255.255.0
tunnel source int s3/0.2
tunnel destination 140.10.102.2
tunnel mode dvmrp
ip pim sparse-mode
!
ip pim send-rp-announce BVI70 scope 5
ip pim send-rp-discovery scope 5
R2
interface tunnel 0
ip addres 140.10.200.2 255.255.255.0
tunnel source int s0/0
tunnel destination 140.10.102.6
tunnel mode dvmrp
ip pim sparse-mode
I see the auto-rp mapping on other routers, just not on R2.
Thank you,
Robert
