error in upgrading a 2503

Hello,
I am trying to upgrade a 2503 and keep getting the following error :-

CCIE_3(boot)#copy tftp flash

System flash directory:
No files in System flash

Address or name of remote host [10.10.10.2]?
Source file name? c2500-js-l.112-18.bin

Device needs erasure before copying new file

Now it won't even pull back the old IOS version that I had backed up to the
tftp server !!!!

Any ideas ?
