You were absolutely correct. The 1750-2V must have been a later version,
which was ietf compliant, but also allowed the command CODEC G729R8
PRE-IETF. The 2600 must have been an older version, prior to the ietf
compliance. I also tried the suggestion by Jennifer Joy: change the Codec to
g711alaw. When adding this, it caused the phone being dialed to give only
one short ring, then when picked up, only a busy signal was heard, (I had
put the g711alaw codec on both routers). This would probably work with more
configuration. Next I want to add NetMeeting support to the config, which
will require g711alaw or g711ulaw to be working, so I will try those Codecs
again soon, both with and without Netmeeting support.
