We talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but it works like this:

You'll have 2 text files on a tftp server. One is named cisconet.cfg and
the other is named the same as your router. cisconet.cfg looks like below

ip host r1 132.7.2.33
!
ip host r2 132.7.14.2
!
end

The second file would be called "r1" for example and would be r1's config.

Autoinstall works over every media, I believe. For frame, the new router
will speak to the host router ( I imagine via CDP ) The host knows which IP
address to give based on the 'frame map ip 132.7.2.33' command. Once r1 has
this, he then attempts to read cisconet.cgf to get his hostname. Once this
is completed (you'll see these things happening via logg messages on r1) the
router will look for a file named with his hostname on the tftp server (this
is why you need the ip helper address on the hosts serial int, to point all
these broadcast queries to the tftp server). He will download this "r1.cfg"
and have a complete config "automatically".

The CD has the methods for autoinstall over HDLC, ethernet, etc. They're
similar.
