Actually I was inquiring about the lines going to people's phones, not the
connection to the CO. I don't intend on playing with any T1 interfaces on
the PBX. I was wondering if ISDN signaling was used between the PBX and the
phones internally.

The problem is, that most PBXs want the router to behave like the ISDN
network, while by default the router acts like user side. There are three
exceptions, you can configure the router as network side for NI, 5ESS, and
NET5 switch types. If it's a real "PBX guy", he should be able to answer the
question of switch type. While you can sit and guess about the combinations,
it is best to just ask and find out how it's configured. Unless they're
willing to endure endless alarms from the PBX while you reset the T1
interface numerous times....
