RE: ATM Pvc

Just so no confusion begins for those who are not strong in ATM (yet!), you
definitely DO NOT need a qsaal PVC on an interface when you are using PVCs to
carry the data. qsaal is only needed when doing SVCs (LANE, CLIP-RFC1577, SVC
maps). The 0/5 qsaal PVC is used for signaling.

NSAPs are NOT NEEDED when doing PVCs since you are statically defining the path
through the ATM network from end point to end point. On the other hand, SVCs
require some type of an addressing mechanism.

Strictly speaking, ILMI would also be optionally when working in a PVC
environment, but may be desirable since it helps the switch become automaticall
y
aware of interface types (UNI/NNI), among other information. You will want to
have ILMI configured in a SVC scenario to pass the switch prefix to end devices
.
Note that the Cisco CD examples for ATM PVCs do not include 0/16 ilmi or 0/5
qsaal.

hi all, new to the group! try creating overhead pvc 0 5 qsaal... use nsap
for svc.

So how else does the router know what
his nsap address is? Maybe he doesn't need an nsap address if it's just a
hard set pvc?
Never tried that.
