I recommend the cisco press book - Cisco LAN Switching by
Clark and Hamilton. Good detail and readable.
Each non-root bridge selects a root port by (in order):
the lowest root path cost
the lowest sending BID
the lowest port ID
The port ID can be changed using port priority.
