I am by no means a BGP expert but as I understand it, the rule of IBGP<->IGP
synchronization is meant to solve a very specific issue. That issue is
guaranteeing that EBGP learned prefixes are known by all IBGP speakers in
the case of a transit AS where one or more transit routers is not running
BGP. Therefore, if all transit routers are running BGP the rule of
synchronization is not relevant and not required for proper BGP operation.
I have witnessed the utility of BGP synch debated on usenet a few times and
my concept of this rule thus far has held in the discussions I have seen and
participated in.
While my answer might not seem immediatley relevant, having an idea about
why a knob or feature exists in a given protocol may serve to guide you as
you read those lab questions and attempt to figure out what it is you are
being asked to do.
So yeah, it's proabably ok to turn BGP synch off unless you have a topology
where it is appropriate to use or you are told to leave it on.
Lot a verbage for agreeing with a simple suggestion eh?

You're mad. =)
My suggestion is to turn off sync unless the lab specifically tells you you
can't do it.
