I have to agree that it's pretty gay not to give advance warning on the
official page before pulling this stuff, esp without bothering to mention
what it's going to be replaced with. I spent alot of effort learning those
crusty old desktop protocols as well as X25, LANE, and SNA. Here is a quote
from a post earlier this month.
>Here are some information got from CCIE Power Session, FYI
>
>1. IOS 12.0 for CCIE Lab Router
>2. Decnet gone forever
>3. DLSW+ for IBM Network, no other SNA problems
>4. ATM LANE has been removed from R/S Lab
>5. IPSec and firewall feature are possible
>6. 6 Routers for CCIE R/S lab (not include Terminal Server router)
>
>CCIE Lab proctors are pleasantly explain some detail about the lab.
>Mail to them and get the exact information for the lab test.
Time to bulk up on IPSEC and CBAC.

What is the "new" way you are referring to? I assumed I had to know
standard PVC and SVC configuration, CLIP, and LANE...Am I missing something?
I would estimate that a solid month of my study time was dedicated to all
of these topics that have been removed....The two things I have the least
access to are ATM and Voice equipment, and I guarantee they start pounding
the voice and QOS stuff....I have the lab in two weeks and I figured if I
knew everything else cold, I could scrape by on voice and QOS abd still do
alright (maybe not the best attitude, I know, but you make due with what ya
have). A little advance notice would have been great....Why can they tell
us now that Appletalk is gone in 4 months and everything else gets yanked
today? Did they just realize today that Apollo and XNS aren't too relevant
anymore? If so, who is planning on using Appletalk for 4 more months and
then scrapping it? Nothing like getting blindsided to clear your
head....I'm off to dig for more voice material....Good luck all....Jack
