Title: OT: Geographical load balancing
Yes, the Cisco CSS 11000 series is an excellent global server load
balancer which can balance by several metrics, such as geographical
proximity (using a ping to calculate RTT), the server's ability to
serve http content (or other application layer content), or just a DNS
round robin method. I joined Cisco from the ArrowPoint acquisition
and may be also biased, but I still think it is the best GSLB product
in the industry. Cisco has three other GSLB devices: Distributed
Director which uses BGP AS-hop count and routing metrics to determine
the best site, the Content Router which came from the SightPath
acquistion (but this is more for determining the best site for
streaming media), and the final product Cisco has is Boomerang, which
can determine best site based on a DNS resolution algorighm.
Regards, Rob.
